Some Notable Trilobite Localities

Although trilobites are found on every continent bearing Paleozoic-age rocks, there are several sites across the globe that are particularly notable for their trilobites and fossils. For example, the remarkable diversity of Devonian trilobites that have been described from Morocco, or the distinctive and rich assemblage of trilobites from the Ordovician strata of Russia are well known. Similarly, localities such as the House Range in Utah, or Coal County in Oklahoma produce some beautiful specimens. I have selected a few of these better-known trilobite-bearing localities. For each, the current geographic location, paleogeographic position, stratigraphy, and age are summarized. A brief description of the significance of the locality, and highlights of some of the better-known trilobite species of the locality are depicted.
