Wenlock Edge, Shropshire

Wenlock Limestone
Silurian

This site is a disused quarry, near Much Wenlock in Shropshire.

We were escorted by an acquaintance who lives locally.
Out of courtesy, the exact site location is not published.

The quarry has filled with water since no longer used.

The tailings are rich in all sorts of fossils.

This Silurian reef remains easily recognizable in the quarry wall.

Brachiopods are quite ubiquitous here.

I counted about 15 different brachiopods species.

Trilobites are present.

I did not find anything but the errant bit.

This is a sampling of the Silurian marine fauna easily found in this location.
Corals, Crinoids, Brachiopods, Tentaculites, Trilobites, Bryozoans, Gastropods, etc...

The Happy Hunters
Thanks again to Andy for the day, we'll be back!
