SNORKELING IN COZUMEL

Snorkeling in the warm Caribbean sea is our main pastime when we go to Cozumel. The island is virtually composed of and surrounded by coral reefs. About 60% of the island's edges are designated as national parks. One simply walks off of the beach into the water world, no dive boat required. Jacques Cousteau was quoted as listing Cozumel in the top five dive spots worldwide.

We snorkel daily, trying out different localities along the sheltered leeward side of the island, the windward side being much rougher. Our favorite locality is called Corona Beach but there are literally dozens of other prime locations. During the day, the fauna is dominated by fish, dozens of species in brilliant colors. At night, it is a different world again, where the denizens of the deep start to creep.
